Eye Clinic: Remedies for Inadequate Tear Production Caused by MGD


Under normal circumstances, Meibomian glands in the upper and lower eyelids will secrete oils onto the eye’s surface to keep it functioning properly. However, with a condition known as Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), tears tend to evaporate too quickly. Inadequate tear production, in turn, causes dry eye syndrome.

Dry eye, coupled with symptoms like itchiness, burning sensation, soreness, photophobia and blurred vision, is one of the most common reasons why people would visit an eye clinic in London or elsewhere. In fact, up to thirty per cent of the adult population experiences dry eye. Meanwhile, forty per cent of people who wear contact lenses or glasses report noticing symptoms of dry eye as well.
